Hybrid atmospheric pressure plasma generation and DC electrospray aerosolization of plasma‐activated water for surface pathogen disinfection

نویسندگان

چکیده

We demonstrate the synergistic effects of combining atmospheric pressure plasma generation together with aerosolization resultant plasma-activated water using direct current electrospraying for effective chemical-free spray-based surface disinfection. Besides facilitating efficient aerosol pretreated water, DC electrospray itself also constitutes a secondary source that can further enhance plasma-activation to result in increase concentration reactive species aerosols. This, turn, be seen translate into an enhancement bacteria inactivation efficacy. Additionally, we show pretreating stainless steel surfaces this hybrid spray-deposition technique before pathogen exposure leads almost complete colonies.

Aluminium Surface Activation Using Atmospheric-pressure Plasma

Contact angles and Attenuated Total Reflection FTIR measurements were performed to study plasma activation of aluminium surface in air atmosphere using Diffuse Coplanar Surface Barrier Discharge plasma source. Two types of aluminium surfaces were used: i) industrially produced bulk aluminium samples; ii) thermally evaporated thin films of aluminium on glass (sets of 400 nm and 2 μm thickness). ...

Low-Pressure Radiofrequency Cold Plasma for Disinfection of Gutta-Percha Cones

Background and Aim: Different methods have been proposed for rapid disinfection of gutta-percha (GP) cones. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of low-pressure radiofrequency cold plasma (LRFCP) in disinfection of GP cones compared to three chemical disinfectants. Materials and Methods: Seventy GP cones were allocated to seven groups of 10 each. All samples were initially sterilized with e...

Innovative Technologies for Waste Water Disinfection and Pathogen Detection

New and improved methods are needed to disinfect pathogens in treated wastewater, especially highly resistant ones like Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts. In addition, new and improved methods are needed to detect pathogens and indicators for them in wastewater in order to monitor the efficacy of disinfection and other waste water treatment processes. Spores of the anaerobic bacterium Clostridium ...

Modification of Glass Surface by Atmospheric Pressure Plasma

A Diffuse Coplanar Surface Barrier Discharge (DCSBS) operating in air at atmospheric pressure has been used to induce changes in the surface properties of glass. The contact angles of water drop on the surface of glass, which were measured by drop shape analysis, decreased markably with plasma treatment for 1 s. With the increasing of the plasma treatment time, the contact angles of the samples...

Disinfection of Ocular Cells and Tissues by Atmospheric-Pressure Cold Plasma

BACKGROUND Low temperature plasmas have been proposed in medicine as agents for tissue disinfection and have received increasing attention due to the frequency of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. This study explored whether atmospheric-pressure cold plasma (APCP) generated by a new portable device that ionizes a flow of helium gas can inactivate ocular pathogens without causing significant ...
